TOOLS & TIPS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* Article Summaries
Articles now include summaries (abstracts). Look for the link to the summary on a journal’s Table of Contents and in Search Results, next to the HTML and PDF viewing options. Summaries allow faster scanning of an article’s contents and of search results.

* Search This Journal
You can now search all issues of a MUSE journal for a particular subject. ‘Search This Journal’ search box (on a journal homepage) helps you locate articles on a particular topic within all issues of a specific journal.

* More Like This
Links automatically to articles similar in subject to the article you are reading. When you find an article in MUSE relevant to your research this feature includes links to other articles in MUSE related in subject. Look for the “More Like This” on the right side navigation bar on MUSE articles. It is a great tool for quickly locating additional articles related to your research topic.

* Custom Print
Custom Print, a service from Sheridan Press for institutional subscribers, allows you to click on a link from MUSE and purchase an article or groups of articles for the purpose of creating a custom publication. MUSE is one of the first online providers to activate this service. Right now articles in ‘'The American Indian Quarterly', University of Nebraska Press, are the only articles for which this option is available. On the article page, look for the link 'Custom Print' to initiate the transaction.

* New Promotional Materials
Check out the new materials available for promoting MUSE use at your institution. MUSE offers posters, bookmarks, and brochures (new) for use in instruction sessions or for outreach with faculty. Order materials at http://muse.jhu.edu/about/ml/librarians/request_promo_materials.html.

* Links to JSTOR
MUSE added links to the back issues of 16 journals in JSTOR. MUSE now links to back issues of over 40 journals available in both Project MUSE and JSTOR.

It is easy for users to include the JSTOR backfiles in their MUSE search. Just check the box, Include JSTOR back issues, on the MUSE search page to search the common titles in JSTOR. This mutual search capability is only available for those journals that have a complete run between Project MUSE and JSTOR. The complete list of titles available for searching from MUSE is listed on http://muse.jhu.edu/about/ml/muse/backissues.html.

TOOLS & TIPS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* More by this author feature

MUSE recently added a new search feature that quickly connects users to more articles by an author. On the article page look for the 'More By' feature appearing on the right navigation bar. Each author listed as contributing to the article appears in the 'More By' feature.

Under ‘More By’ click on the author name to find:
- additional articles in MUSE by the author
- link to more works by the author in Google Scholar
- link to more works by the author in OCLC WorldCat (labeled as Find in a Library)

* 2009 MARC records available

MARC records are now available for each of MUSE's six collections. Each record set includes journals launched as of the beginning of the current subscription year. Updates are added periodically during the year as new journals are launched.

Go to the MUSE MARC Records page http://muse.jhu.edu/about/librarians/marc_records.html for:
- additional details
- instructions for downloading
- a link to sign up for email notification of updated records

* Shibboleth Access

MUSE supports Shibboleth access for 4 federations:
- HEAL-Link (Greece)
- InCommon (United States)
- SURFNet (Netherlands)
- UK Federation (United Kingdom)

To enable Shibboleth access for your institution, submit a request to MUSE Customer Support, muse@press.jhu.edu, and include your Shibboleth Identity Provider ID.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2009 TITLE INFORMATION
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* Title with status change in 2009

"Canadian Journal on Aging / La Revue canadienne du vieillissement"
This journal changed publishers. The new publisher, Cambridge University Press, will continue to add content to MUSE from volume 28 forward. MUSE previously reported that this journal would not be contributing new content in 2009. The journal is included in Premium, Standard, Basic Research and Social Sciences collections.

Read the announcement: http://tools.muse.jhu.edu/cgi-bin/announcements.cgi#20090323153804

* Titles from Liverpool University Press

For business reasons, Liverpool University Press (LUP) has made changes to the list of journals which will be participating in MUSE. "International Development Planning Review" and "Town Planning Review", both previously announced as joining MUSE in 2009, will not be contributing content to MUSE. Two other journals from LUP will instead begin contributing content in 2009: "Music Sound and the Moving Image", and "Science Fiction, Film and Television." Coverage for both of these titles in MUSE will begin with Volume 1, Issue 1.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOOLS & TIPS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* New promotional material

MUSE unveiled new promotional bookmarks at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Denver. The series of bookmarks illustrate subjects discussed in MUSE journals. Use them in your outreach efforts with faculty or include them in orientation packets to increase awareness of subjects covered in MUSE journals. Request a supply using the online Request Promotional Materials form under the Librarians tab on the MUSE website, http://muse.jhu.edu/content/ml/about/librarians/request_promo_materials.html.

* Twitter

MUSE is on Twitter. Follow us!

* Vodcast

Take a look at MUSE’s latest research tool: a vodcast titled "Research MUSEings Vodcasts: Discovering Linked Subject Headings." It is a quick tutorial about the benefits of using MUSE's linked subject headings and a lighthearted approach to demystifying the concept of Library of Congress Subject Headings as they appear in MUSE.

How the vodcast may be useful:
- Users can learn, on their own, what subject headings are, where to find them in MUSE, and how
they help locate articles specific to a research topic.
- Librarians may find the vodcast useful as a supplement to instruction classes.

Find the vodcast at http://muse.jhu.edu/content/ml/about/resources/vodcasts.html.

* Access via Shibboleth

MUSE now supports Shibboleth access to the MUSE journal collections. Shibboleth:
- provides convenient single sign-on access to online resources provided by an institution
- enables an authenticated user to access online resources both on-campus and off-campus
- provides security and protects the privacy of the user.

To enable Shibboleth access for MUSE, submit a request to MUSE Customer Support, muse@press.jhu.edu, and include your Shibboleth Identity Provider ID. Athens customers in the USA and UK can now move to OpenAthens if they so desire. Existing Athens customers that have an Athens ID on file with Project MUSE do *not* need to register that change with MUSE.

* Back issues added

MUSE just released the back issues of nine of its long-held journals giving subscribers access to the complete run of eight of the titles. These recently added back issues are part of MUSE's ongoing pilot program to determine the feasibility of expanding coverage to include back issues.
